Today’s the Day!

May 14, 2019. It is currently 5:30 PM. My flight takes off in an hour and a half. In less than 24 hours I’ll be in Berlin. This is real now. I cannot wait!

Flashback to December 18, 2018. 11:48 AM. I get a text from my dad with a link to a video with the instructions “watch this all the way through.” The video starts with a man dressed as Santa. At first I think it’s just a dumb internet video my dad had found and and decided was absolutely essential that I watch. However, the second I saw Dr. Pitcock’s face I knew it was so much more. The announcement that followed confirmed my suspicions and words cannot explain how excited I was to hear that I would be going on CR11! At the time I wasn’t entirely sure what I had gotten myself into, but I knew it was going to be the experience of a lifetime.

And now, five months later, it’s time to leave the US for almost a month to go on my greatest adventure up to this point. I’m nervous and excited and anxious to get there all at the same time. Right now I’m sitting here in the DFW airport with seven other members of CR. By the end of this experience we will share a bond inexplicable to others. That is one of my biggest goals on this experience – to grow closer to my fellow horned frogs through shared experiences, stories, laughter, tears, and everything in between. Additionally, I hope to discover new things about myself and continue on the journey of solidifying my ideas and beliefs through constructive conversations with others. Finally, I hope to learn about the culture and people of the countries to which we are traveling. It is through this lens of foreign culture that the entire experience will be seen.

By now, it is almost time to board. The next post will be coming at ya live from Berlin!

Bye for now,

Connor Nolan
